KAMER 13: Mitch & Daan
Kamer.13 is an initiative of the Fotomuseum aan het Vrijthof, made possible by the Friends of the Fotomuseum Foundation. In Room 13, local photographers exhibit 13 photos to showcase the talent in the region to our visitors. These exhibitions last from 6 to 8 weeks and provide a varied addition to our regular exhibitions. On view from June 16: Mitch & Daan
Mitch and Daan are a photographic twosome, formed by Mitch van Schijndel (1995) and Daniela Petrovic (1998). They both developed their passion for photography during their studies at the Maastricht Institute of Arts, where they not only refined their individual talents, but also discovered their shared vision.
The exhibition 'ELSEWHERE' presents a collection of portraits of people with a migration background. The people the duo captures are here for different reasons: some fled dire situations, others came in search of work. By photographing them in an atypical and aesthetic way, Mitch and Daan want to invite the viewer to look beyond the label “migrant” and see the individual person.
The people portrayed have found their way to an island known for its raw, untouched nature and at the same time offers an idyllic living environment. The exhibition attempts to capture and bridge the encounter between these two worlds.
Mitch and Daniela met each other just before their studies. Their shared interest in portrait photography and fashion led to a natural collaboration. By joining forces, they created a style that captures both people and fashion.
